Olympic medals handed over to Tower of London

　　The thousands of Olympic medals that will be handed out later this summer are now in very good and very secure hands. London organizers turn over their cache of gold, silver and bronze medals to the Tower of London for safe-keeping on Monday.

　　A fanfare of Royal Marine trumpets sounded as the first of 4,700 medals arrived in the arms of Jan du Plessis, chairman of the mining company that provided the raw materials. Du Plessis then handed two 'golds' to the chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, Sebastian Coe. The Tower of London has been used for over 600 years to hoard crowns and jewels. For the next 26 days, the medals will stay locked in the Tower.

　　Lord Sebastian Coe, Chair of London Organizing Committee, said, "It's the safest house in London. It's iconic, it's looked after precious jewels and the crown jewels for many, many years and, of course, it sits in one of our host boroughs as well - so it was an obvious choice."
