　　Former British Army captain Ed Stafford survived 60 days alone on a desert island in the South Pacific last year, media revealed recently. The idea was to see if he could survive for two months equipped with nothing--including any clothing--but the video cameras.

　　Stafford wanted to try something that no one else had done. He said it was a boyhood dream sort of thing to survive in an uninhabited place. There were lots of skills that he had to learn before the exploration.

　　He worked on making fire by friction, with pieces of wood, and learned how to make a stone axe and a bow and arrow. He also went to Australia and met up with a few indigenous guys. They told him to create a stone circle to fight the feeling of isolation and believe that once he was inside it, he was safe. He constructed this on the island later and it proved a simple way to keep him calm.

He once killed a wild goat, cut it into thin strips, marinated it in seawater so that it would absorb salt, and then hung it above the fire to dry.

　　Stafford said things were not that smooth all the time. He was always slightly dehydrated and malnourished.

　　This time was not Stafford’s first survival challenge. In August 2010, he became the first person to walk the full length of the River Amazon.
