习大大访英英女王赞中英文化交流已达新高度

　　文化互通是国家间的深层次交往，它起始于经贸往来，意义却不仅仅是赚了多少钱。这次习大大访英，从行程安排可见英国的良苦用心，不遗余力地展现英国文化让人印象深刻。未来中英关系将开启“黄金十年”，中英文化交流也必将走向新的高度。

　　Grasping the essence of an old culture like Britain’s is alwayshard. It’s even more difficult for foreigners who speak a differentlanguage. But Chinese people have a leg up, as the two countries prepare for a “golden decade” ofcultural exchange.

　　理解像英国这样国家的古老文明不是件容易的事儿，对于讲外语的外国人就更是难上加难。不过趁着中英筹备文化交流“黄金十年”的契机，中国人占得先机。

　　President Xi Jinping’s visit to the UK, from Oct 19 to 23, is the first state visit by a Chinesepresident since 2005. It’s expected to be a fruitful event. Xi leads a 150-member businessdelegation, with billions of pounds of investment planned.

　　中国国家主席习近平于十月19-23日对英国进行国事访问，这是2005年以来中国领导人第一次访英。外界期待这次访英能取得丰硕的成果。习近平带领了一支150人的商界代表团同行，预备了数十亿英镑的投资计划。

　　“When people exchange goods, they exchange ideas. Commerce and culture go hand in hand,”British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and British Museum director Neil MacGregorwrote in a joint piece on The Telegraph. “So as the UK and China broaden and develop theircommercial ties, it’s natural that the cultural links between the two countries should also growcloser and stronger.”

　　The British government has gone to great lengths to make sure the country’s most significantcultural assets are on display.

　　The efforts begin with Xi’s state visit itinerary. He is scheduled to travel in a carriage to meet theroyal family at the Buckingham Palace. He’s set to attend a state banquet and visit the ManchesterCity Football Club.

　　从习大大访英的日程安排就能看出英国政府的用心。按照计划习大大会乘坐黄金马车抵达白金汉宫同王室会面，参加国宴，以及参观曼城足球俱乐部。

　　Xi is also headed to the English countryside, to join British Prime Minister David Cameron at hiscountryside residence Chequers Court for talks and dinner. As British writer Jeremy Paxman oncesaid, “The English mind kept alive the idea that the soul of England lay in the countryside”.

　　日程安排还包括习大大前往英国乡村，参加在英国首相大卫•卡梅伦的乡间别墅举办的“庄园会”。正如英国作家杰瑞米•帕克斯曼曾说的：“英国有一种流传很久的说法——英国的灵魂在乡间。”

　　While such experiences are reserved only for world leaders, the UK has also designed a tourismpackage for ordinary people in China.

　　During his visit to China in late September, George Osborne announced tourism initiatives backedby 6 million pounds of government grants.

　　今年九月底访华期间，乔治•奥斯本曾宣布英国政府将提供6百万英镑的政府津贴，用于刺激旅游业发展。

　　Under the initiatives, some of UK’s pre-eminent institutions, including the British Museum, theBritish Library and the Tate, will share objects and exhibitions with China. Cultural icons likeSherlock Holmes will be introduced to Chinese audiences, along with plays by Shakespeare and theRoyal Opera House.

　　“The classical repertoire sits very comfortably with technology and cultural innovation. It draws onthe best of history, with the best of forward thinking,” said Nick Marchand, who is the director ofarts and creative industries and the first secretary of culture, at the Cultural and Education Sectionof the British Embassy.

　　“There’s an economic goal behind this [cultural exchange],” wrote the joint piece by Osborne andMacGregor. “Ultimately, however, it’s about more than pounds and renminbi. It’s in our literature,our theater, our paintings and our museums, that we express who we are as a country.
