　　吃火鸡的由来一

　　1620年，英国一批主张改革的清教徒，因理想和抱负不能实现而退出国教，自立新教，此举激起了英国当政者的仇恨。这些清教徒们不堪承受统治者的迫害和歧视，先逃到荷兰，9月初，乘船远渡重洋，准备流亡美国。船在波涛汹涌的大海中漂泊了65天，于11月终于到达了美国东海岸，在罗得岛州的普罗维斯敦港登陆。
