　　Making suggestions

　　在今天的节目当中，我们来学习下提出建议时的地道英语表达法。

　　- Well it's for Jackie's leaving party because she's going to work in another department, so we need to have a really good party so we can send her off really well. So what shall we do?

　　- Well, why don't we have a surprise party?

　　- That's a good idea…

　　- Why don't we hire the ground floor of a bar, get some food in and we could get a band in?

　　结构: why don't + 主语 + 动词

　　Examples

　　- I'm worried that they won't have anything to do on Sunday.

　　- Well, why don't they come with us?

　　- I don't think he'll have time to see them.

　　-Why doesn't he get the later train, then he'll have more time?

　　Shall we have some music?

　　结构: shall+主语+动词

　　- But why do we have to have catering? That's expensive!

　　- Yeah, why not buy our own food?

　　why not一定要直接跟动词，动词前不能有其他成分.

　　- Shall we have some music?

　　- Yeah, why not buy our own food?

　　- Why don't we make our own food?

　　- I was thinking exactly that myself.

　　- That's a nice idea.

　　Let's ask Carrie to make a cake.

　　Yeah, let's do that

　　let's=let us.意为:让我们(怎样). 一般位于句首.

　　如:Let's give praise to God.

　　让我们赞美神吧。

　　- Perhaps we could put up some decorations in the office, some balloons and…

　　- Yeah

　　- …A 'Goodbye Jackie' banner...

　　I could go tomorrow.

　　He could tell them tonight.

　　Could在这里表示建议。

　　We could write a letter to the headmaster.

　　我们不妨给校长写封信.

　　You could always try his home number.

　　实在不行的话, 你还可以试一试他家的电话号码.

　　I think we should buy a really, really big card - a huge card - and we should get everybody

　　to sign it.

　　Should在表示建议的时候，口气比could更加强烈一点。
