Haiti quake aid effort hampered by blockages

Bottlenecks（困难障碍；瓶颈） and infrastructure（基础设施） damage have been holding up aid efforts（救援工作，此处的efforts注意理解和翻译时的“抽象化译法”，不要机械地根据字面译为“努力”，而是“。。。的工作”） in Haiti, where Tuesday's earthquake has left as many as 45,000-50,000 dead.

There is little sign of humanitarian supplies（人道主义援助） beyond the Port-au-Prince airport（太子港机场，海地地名）, and correspondents（通讯员） say there is increasing anger among survivors. 生还者情绪越来越难以控制。

Many are spending another day without food and shelter（庇护所，栖息地） in the ruined capital（被严重毁坏的首都）.

A US aircraft carrier has arrived off the coast of Haiti to help co-ordinate（协调） the movement of supplies（补给品的运输；此处movement同样要抽象化理解，不是指单一机械的移动，而是运输）.

President Barack Obama pledged（承诺） a huge aid effort（大力援助）, but warned it would take time for help to reach people. （让灾民获得救援物资。此处people应具象化理解为“灾民”，而不是笼统的“人民”））

Insecurity 动荡局势

On the ground, correspondents say there is little immediate sign of（尚无明显迹象；。。。状态尚未成型） a co-ordinated relief effort. 在灾区现场，通讯员称救援工作有欠协调。

The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) says that in total 3.5 million people have been affected by the earthquake（受灾）, but that it has so far managed to feed（本意为喂养，此处指供给食品） just 4,000.

Port-au-Prince's small airport is filled to capacity（客满，人满为患；满负荷运载；capacity指负载量） and US air traffic controllers（空中交通管制员，六级听力passage曾考到） have taken charge of air traffic control to help manage the influx（大量涌入） of planes.

However because of fuel shortages（短缺，供应不足）, some aircraft are clogging up（堵塞） the tarmac（沥青路面）. Meanwhile the port is too damaged to use and roads are blocked by debris（残骸）. 然而，由于燃料短缺，不少飞机停滞在沥青铺就的机场跑道上。同时，目前使用机场太过危险，道路都被残骸堵塞。

The BBC's Andy Gallacher in Port-au-Prince says survivors are dying in huge numbers（大批死亡）, and clean water, food and medical supplies（药品供应） are desperately needed（急需；desperate愿意为“绝望的”，联想热门美剧Desperate Housewives，此处构成副词出现表示程度上极度地。。。）.
