　　1. The biggest challenge facing us now is to improve the quality of life in cities. Because sadly, cities don’t always offer the economic security, the safety, or the comfort they promise.
　　主题是城市的生活质量，注意考点在句末的列举“security, safety, ”

　　2. With devoice rates rising, delinquency is also becoming more of a problem than before. In single-parent families, parents spend less time with children. Teachers and police often help but cannot replace the role of a child guardian.
　　主题是青少年犯罪问题。重点词delinquency（常指青年人的）犯罪，违法行为，若不认识可以先放弃，转而根据上下文判断。句长达到37个字，但由于是社会问题，考生应该能够做到得心应手。

　　3. Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest grocer, announced plans recently to donate 2 billion dollars over 5 years to food banks and hunger relief organizations. This has been among the largest charitable efforts that Wal-Mart has undertaken.
　　主题是零售巨鳄---沃尔玛捐资处理饥饿问题。出现的数字“2 billion”和“5 years”对于考生应该是轻车熟路，而“food bank”和“hunger relief organization”也在我们课堂上重点讲过。

　　4. I personally think that too much conservatism defeats the objects in the clothes industry. So I can’t really say that I go along whole-heartedly with this trend.
　　主题是着装风格，是整个句子听译部分最简单的一句。“conservatism”不认识没关系，是“conservative”的同源词，难度不大。

　　5. According to a recent report, economic growth in Latin America this year is expected to reach 4%, far above the 1% that the international monetary fund forecast for the 27 nations, EU.
　　主题是拉丁美洲的经济增长，数字4%，1%和27甚至比第二句更简单，为中级口译难度。
