It was the first time that the All England Club held an Olympic tournament. Tennis was not part of the Olympic programme in the 1948 London Games, while at the 1908 Games, also held in London, the competition was held at Wimbledon's old site in Worple Road.
The biggest challenge for Wimbledon was to make a quick turnaround in just 20 days between the famous annual Grand Slam event and the Olympic tennis tournament.
