　　黄玉的英文名可能源自红海扎巴贾德岛，该岛旧称“托帕焦斯(Topazios)”，意为“难寻找”，因该岛常被大雾笼罩不意发现而得名。也有一些权威人士认为是由梵文Topas衍生而来，意为“火彩”。中文译为黄玉，又名托帕石。
