经典谚语地道表达

　　1.说曹操曹操到

　　英文：speak of the devil

　　[点津]

　　这个谚语的完整表达是“Speak of the devil and he shall appear.”devil有“魔鬼”的含义，这个谚语流行之初有一种迷信的说法，原指“如果说到魔鬼，霉运就会接踵而至”。

　　例：-I haven"t seen Bob for weeks.我好几周没见过鲍勃了。

　　-Well, speak of the devil. Look, here comes Bob right now.说曹操曹操到。瞧，他正过来呢。

　　2.优胜劣汰;弱肉强食

　　英文：The weakest goes to the wall.

　　这个习语曾在莎翁经典著作《罗密欧与朱丽叶》中出现过。go to the wall有“碰壁;被打败”的含义。

　　例：-It’s too bad the lovely rabbit was caught and eaten by the wolf.那只可爱的小兔子被一只狼抓住吃了，真是让人难过。

　　-Well, it’s called the weakest goes to the wall.这就是所谓的优胜劣汰吧。

　　3.覆水难收;木已成舟

　　英文：What’s done cannot be undone.

　　[点津]

　　这个谚语的字面意思是“已经发生的事便不可改变”。

　　例：Jill soon regretted telling Mike that she loved him, but she knew that what's done cannot be undone.吉尔向麦克表白后很快就后悔了，不过她知道覆水难收。

　　4.凡事试过才知晓

　　英文：You never know (what you can) till you try.

　　例：-Are you really going to be able to finish writing your novel by the end of the year?你真的能在今年年底写完你的小说吗?

　　-It’s not easy, but you never know what you can till you try, right?那是不容易，不过不试试你永远不知道自己能不能做到，对吧?

　　5.不入虎穴，焉得虎子

　　英文：Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

　　[点津]

　　venture意为“冒险”，gain则意为“收获”。

　　例：-Should I ask my boss for a promotion?我该不该向老板提出升职呢?

　　-You may fail, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.你可能会失败，不过不入虎穴，焉得虎子?
