Ispent the morning digging out orchids,
afraidfrost would soon leave them dead,
passedthe night among fringes of cloud,
savoringa moon up beyond all this rock,
chortlestelling me birds have settled in,
fallingleaves giving away fresh winds.
Soundsweave together in the ear, strange
unearthlyechoes all crystalline distance,
thoughthere’s no one to share wonders
orthe joys in wine’s fragrant clarities.
We’llnever meet again now. I sit beside
astream, sun drying my hair for nothing.
