Goneare the days when I was fresh and young;
Iwas indulged in nightly dance and song.
WhenI went west to the capital Xianyang,
Iteased the pretty maidens all day long.
BeforeI fully tasted all the fun,
Ifound that I had passed my prime of life.
Nowthat a new life for me has begun,
Ilook back at the region full of strife.
AsI have squandered all my gold,
I’malways worrying about my cost.
Likethe man who takes a mistaken road,
Whatam I to do since I’ve got lost?

Ipaid no heed, singing and playing.
OffI went westward to Xianyang, the capital,
thereto tease the women, flirt with the rich.
Allthis pleasure was still at its height
whensuddenly, night-time fell.
NowI return, on horseback,
andgaze across the far reaches of Three Rivers.
Hundredsof yi of gold may have been wasted—
nevermind. We suffer from too much wealth.
Beforeme the road runs away to the north;
howcan I find the way to my lost road?
