　　Many people find reassurance in the sober, capable military men who surround him. His chief of staff, his defense secretary and his national security adviser all understand the horrors of war and will stop him from doing anything rash, the argument goes.

　　Optimists even speculate that he might emulate Ronald Reagan, by shaking up the diplomatic establishment, restoring America’s military muscle and projecting such strength abroad that a frightened, overstretched North Korea will crumble like the Soviet Union. Others confidently predict that even if he causes short-term damage to America’s standing in the world, Mr. Trump will be voted out in 2020 and things will return to normal.

　　1.find reassurance in someone: 安心、保障（If someone needs reassurance, he is very worried, and needs someone to help him stop worrying by saying kind or helpful things.）

　　8.understand the horrors of war：了解战争的恐怖：（horror: an extremely strong feeling of fear and shock.）

　　9.stop him from doing anything rash：阻止他的冒失之举（rash: carelessness，something unwise）

　　10.Optimists even speculate that…. Others confidently predict that: 乐观主义者甚至预测…，而另一些人则充满信心地预测…

　　11.speculate: 预测、揣测：If you speculate about something, you make guesses about its nature or identity, or about what might happen.

　　12.predict: 预测：if you predict, you say it will happen.

　　13.emulate Ronald Reagan：（效法）仿效里根：（emulate: you imitate them because you admire them a great deal. (FORMAL)）

　　14.the diplomatic establishment: 外交机构（An establishment is a shop, business, or organization occupying a particular building or place. (FORMAL)

　　15.restoring America’s military muscle：重塑美国军事实力 (muscle: power, strength)

　　16.project strength abroad: 向海外投放军事力量

　　17.a frightened, overstretched nation （North Korea）：一个受到惊吓，病超负荷运转的国家:

　　18.a country will crumble: 一个国家会崩溃（crumble: break into small pieces, collapse, decline）

　　19.cause short-term damage to：对…构成短期危害

　　20.be voted out：落选
