"This is something that looks like it's out of a movie. It doesn't really look real."

This is a natural phenomenon known as bioluminescence.

这种自然现象叫做 “生物发光”。

The light is being emitted by living organisms – in this case, algae.

这种亮光是由有机生物体发出的，这里看到的是海藻发出的光。

The people in southern California are flocking to see it.

By day, the algae, called phytoplankton, turn the water red, but at night, they emit a blue glow when disturbed.

"They do really like warm temperatures, calm conditions. And we've had a pretty long run of that here in southern California over the last couple of weeks."

"I thought it was the most magical thing I've ever seen in my entire life, and I've been kind of chasing that since then. I remember filming that, and I actually had tears in my eyes and I've been trying to get it out here again. It was just like seeing it for the first time. Really incredible and something that, I mean, I might not ever see again."
