Smog in Delhi is so bad schools have been closed.

And in Canada, smoke from wild fires put millions on health alert.

The smoke is bad for our health, contributing to things like asthma, lung cancer and strokes.

But it's also helping warm the planet.

Industry, wildfires and cars can release polluting greenhouse gases, which trap heat in our atmosphere.

工业、野火和汽车会释放出造成污染的温室气体，温室气体会在大气中吸收并锁住热量。

These activities also release black carbon – a polluting particle.

上述事件还会导致黑碳排放，黑碳是一种污染颗粒。

It absorbs heat like greenhouse gases, and also, if it falls on snowy areas, it can speed up ice melt.

Ice reflects sunlight, so less ice means more sunlight is absorbed by the earth, also raising global temperatures.

High temperatures make wildfires more likely, releasing more pollution and raising temperatures in a growing cycle.

So cutting pollution is a win-win – for our health and for long-term climate change.
