Buli, have you tried the latest edition of your favourite video game?

Buli
Yes, I have. But, I don't really like this version. I think I'll just play the old one again.

Georgie
The words 'edition' and 'version' both refer to different forms of something – in this case, different forms of the same video game. In this example, they're fairly interchangeable, but there is a difference. Let's take a look.

Examples
I love the acoustic version of this song. I find it relaxing.

The new version of the software is much more intuitive.

'Version' can also be used to talk about people, when they've made changes to themselves; and stories, when two people have different memories of the same event. Let's hear more examples.

Examples
After therapy, she became a more confident version of herself.
（心理治疗过后，她成为了一个更加自信的自己。）

Robert's version of the story is very different to Andrew's. How will we know who's telling the truth?

Yes. You'll often see the word inside the cover of books to indicate how many times it has been published in a new form, for example '7th edition'. Let's hear other examples.

Examples
The first edition of this book is worth a lot of money because it's so rare.
（这本书的初版非常值钱，因为它太稀有了。）

I love this edition of the album because it has a few extra live recordings of some of the songs.
（我喜欢这张专辑的这个版本，因为它附带其中一些歌曲的演唱会现场录音。）

This handbag is a limited edition, so only a few were made worldwide.

The collector's edition of the game comes with extra merchandise.
