Beth
Hello and welcome to Question and Answer of the Week. I'm Beth.

Buli
And I'm Buli. 本期的 “你问我答” 节目中我们要回答下面这个问题。

Question
“我们达成了协议” 可以说 “we got a deal” 吗?还是要用 “we made a deal” 或者 “we reached a deal”?它们之间有什么区别?谢谢。

Beth
Good question! These are very common phrases, and they have similar meanings.

Buli
让我们从 “we got a deal” 说起吧。在表达 “达成了协议” 的意思时,“we got a deal” 是一个常用的表达。

Beth
Yes. This is an informal and conversational way of saying that an agreement has successfully been secured, and the emphasis is particularly on the result of the process.

Buli
没错。“Get a deal” 常用于口语,意思就是 “达成协议”。需要注意的是,这个表达中的 “get” 强调了 “成功达成协议” 这个结果。“Get” 这个词在许多包含它的固定搭配中都用于对 “成功地实现了某个结果” 的强调。

Beth
Now, it's common to use the present perfect with this phrase – 'we've got a deal' – especially when announcing that a deal has been made, but we can also use it in the past simple. Listen to these examples.

Examples
There were hours of discussion, but we finally got a deal.
(虽然讨论持续了好几个小时,但我们最终还是达成了协议。)

We've got a deal! Isn't that great news?
(我们达成协议了!这真是个好消息吧?)

Buli
我们可以注意到,例句中出现了现在完成时 “we've got a deal”。英语中常用 “we get a deal” 的现在完成时来向他人宣布 “我们刚刚成功达成了一个协议”。

Beth
Now, we can also say 'make a deal', though this has a slightly different focus.

Buli
是的。和 “get a deal” 不同,“make a deal” 强调经过一定的努力或谈判终于达成协议,意思是 “完成或签订了一个协议”。

Beth
So, we can compare 'get a deal', which focuses on the result, with 'make a deal', which focuses on the process and agreeing the terms of the deal.

Buli
没错。并且 “make a deal” 常用于描述 “在相对更加正式的场合中达成的协议”。来听一组例句。

Examples
We've made a deal on how to split the profits from the fundraiser.
(我们完成了一个关于如何分配资金募集活动所得的协议。)

The company has now discussed the terms and conditions and made a deal.
(公司探讨过各项条款后,目前已经达成了协议。)

Buli
这位听众的问题中还提到了 “reach a deal” 这个用法。Beth,“reach a deal” 和 “get a deal”、“make a deal” 又有哪些区别呢?

Beth
Well, the focus of 'reach a deal' tends to be on the moment a mutual agreement is arrived at.

Buli
原来如此。也就是说,“reach a deal” 强调的是 “经过一段时间终于达成了协议”,也蕴含着 “经过困难或复杂的过程后最终达成协议” 的意思。

Beth
That's right. And it's a bit formal and professional, so it's commonly heard in business settings, in the news and especially when complex matters have been discussed. For example, we may use them in these ways.

Examples
After hours of negotiating, they reached a deal.
(经过数小时的谈判,他们终于达成了协议。)

From recent reports, it seems that a deal has been reached.
(近期的报告显示,一项协议有可能已经被达成了。)

Buli
除了以上几个表达外,还有一个单词 “strike” 也经常和 “deal” 组成类似的表达。“Strike a deal” 在表示 “达成协议” 时和 “make a deal” 类似,也强调 “这个协议是经过努力或谈判才最终达成的”,特别是在达成协议的过程中争执得非常激烈时。

Beth
However, it's very slightly different to 'make a deal' in that 'strike a deal' also highlights a sense of achievement or pride.

Buli
是的。因为 “strike a deal” 这个表达在使用中往往带着 “达成协议的成就感或自豪感”,因此它经常被用于商务活动或新闻报导中。来听一组例句,注意 “strike” 使用了过去式和过去分词形式 “struck”。

Examples
The two leaders have struck a deal after weeks of discussions.
(经过数周的讨论,两位领导人终于达成了协议。)

We can confirm that a deal has been struck. More details to follow.
(我们能够确认协议已经达成。稍后我们将公布更多细节。)

Buli
