英语口语交流中的实用表达

内容简介

在口语交流中,人们往往会使用更加活泼和生动的语言。比如,与其说 “I agree with you”,我们可以用 “I hear you” 来更生动地表达 “我同意你的观点” 这个意思。在本期节目中,主持人 Beth 和步理就将回答一位听众关于口语表达的问题,分享四个能让对话听起来更加自然的口语表达。

Beth
Hello and welcome to Question and Answer of the Week. I'm Beth.

Buli
And I'm Buli. 在本期的 “你问我答” 节目中,我们要来回答下面这个问题。

Question
我知道 “I know” 的意思是 “我知道了”,但最近发现实际的口语交流中大家更常用 “I know, right?” 来表示 “就是说啊!”。类似的还有 “no way” 和 “tell me about it”,它们的用法好像都和字面意思不太一样。我想知道还有没有这样的表达可以在英语对话中让自己的口语显得更自然?

Beth
What an interesting question!

Buli
I know, right?

Beth
So, the question has already mentioned 'I know', which means 'I understand', and 'no way' which shows you are shocked or in disbelief about something.

Buli
And the question also mentioned 'tell me about it', which we can use when we agree about something annoying or generally negative. 问题中提到的 “I know(对吧,是吧)”、“no way(天呐;这不太可能吧)” 以及 “tell me about it(别提了)” 都是口语中常见的表达。这些表达的其中一个共同点就是它们实际的意思和字面意思有所不同,甚至在不同的语境下有着不同的含义。接下来,我们就一起学习一些类似的口语表达,比如 “you don't say(可不是吗)”。

Beth
Yes. 'You don't say' is used to show sarcasm when you already know the thing the person is telling you – it's something obvious.

Buli
就比如,我在和 Beth 一起去吃晚饭的时候点了满满一桌子的菜,然后才和她说 “I'm starving. 我饿坏了。”

Beth
Then I would probably reply with 'you don't say!', meaning obviously, because you've ordered so much food!

Buli
Tell me about it, I do order too much when I'm hungry. 除了上面的用法,“you don't say” 还可以用于表达 “对某人的说法表示惊讶或难以置信”,类似于 “no way”。

Beth
Now, another example is 'that's a good one'. This can be used literally when you want to say you appreciate an idea or a joke. So, let's hear that expression in a conversation.

Example
A: Let's think about food for the party. I'll bring a Victoria sponge cake.
(A:我们来想想给聚会准备哪些吃的吧。我会带上一个维多利亚海绵蛋糕。)
B: Oh yes, that's a good one.
(B:对,这想法真不错。)

Buli
这个表达还可以用来讽刺他人不切实际的说法,意思就像是 “听着可真逗”。再来听一段对话。

Example
A: I'll make sure I'm on time tomorrow.
(A:我保证我明天准时到。)
B: Ha. That's a good one. You're never on time!
(B:哈哈。你可真逗。你从来都不准时!)

Beth
Now, another expression is 'I hear you'. Literally, this would mean you can hear the person, however we also use it to show agreement or empathy, often about something negative.

Buli
没错。如果一个人正向你抱怨某件事,你就可以用 “I hear you” 来表达 “你对这件事有着相同的感受或者对对方表示同情或理解”。来听一段对话。

Example
A: The rules of this game are so confusing. I don't understand what's going on. I thought it was supposed to be fun.
(A:这个游戏的规则太让人晕头转向了。我都没理解是怎么一回事。我还以为它挺好玩的呢。)
B: I hear you. Board games like this are just weird.
(B:我理解你。像这样的桌游真是太奇怪了。)

Beth
But 'I hear you' can also be used to show you agree with something positive, it's just not as common.

Example
A: Swimming is just the best way to recharge after a long day.
(A:辛苦了一天之后游游泳简直是恢复精力的最好方式了。)
B: I hear you. I feel so relaxed after a swim.
(B:你说得太对了。我游完泳感觉特别放松。)

Buli
在上面的对话中,“I hear you” 表达了对一个想法的赞同。

Beth
And finally, we have the expression 'give me a break'. It doesn't mean you actually need a break. We use it to mean we are in disbelief or annoyed about something.

Buli
是的。“Give me a break” 通常用来表达 “对他人的想法感到难以置信或感到生气和无法接受”。来听两段对话,注意 “give me a break” 在表达不同意思时的语气区别。

Examples
A: She is the best singer in the whole competition.
(A:她是整场比赛中最棒的歌手。)
B: Give me a break – she's so out of tune!
(B:别开玩笑了——她唱歌都跑调了!)

A: You need to work a bit harder. Why haven't you finished this yet?
(A:你需要工作得再努力一些。为什么你还没完成这项工作?)
B: Give me a break – I've done so many hours on this!
(B:拜托!我已经在这个上面花了很多个小时了!)

Buli
