内容简介
外出旅行时遇到航班或列车延误不免让人感到烦躁,因此在收听机场或站台广播时我们经常要格外注意和公共交通 “public transport” 有关的关键词,避免影响自己的出行计划。本期节目中,主持人 Georgie 和步理回答一位听众提出的关于公共交通的问题,并介绍一些出行时常用的短语动词和单词。

大家好,欢迎收听 BBC 英语教学的 “你问我答” 栏目。I'm Buli.
Georgie
And I'm Georgie. We've got a question here from one of our listeners.
Question
感觉乘坐公共交通时的英语交流好难。在询问车辆是否会经停某地或终点站是哪里时,总是会混淆 “stop by”、“get off”、“drop off” 等词组的意思。以及有时候不理解交通标语或广播中常提到的 “delayed”、“suspended”、“transfer” 这样的词汇而错过重要信息。可以帮帮我吗?
Georgie
This is a great, practical question. Lots of people take public transport so it's important to use the right terminology! Let's start with those tricky phrasal verbs.
Buli
A great place to start! 让我们从和交通有关的短语动词开始吧。首先,短语动词 “stop by” 不常用于 “public transport(公共交通)”,它的意思是 “在到达最终目的地前在某处短暂停留”。人们通常用它来表示 “顺便去一趟某处”。比如,“I'll stop by your house for a quick chat on my way home.(我回家的路上会到你那里聊个天)”。
Georgie
That's right. So don't use it for public transport. Instead, use 'stop' with the preposition 'at'. For example, 'Does this bus stop at the library?' Let's hear more examples.
Examples
It's a fast train – it only stops at three stations.
(这是一趟快车。这趟车只停三站。)
The bus stops at all the key landmarks before its final destination.
(这辆公交会在终点站前经停所有的重要地标。)
Buli
“Stop” 是一个在公共交通中十分常见的单词。除了例句中的用法外,“stop” 还可以用作名词,意思是 “站,停靠点”。乘坐公共交通时经常会听到这个词,比如,“bus stop(公交站)”、“next stop(下一站)” 等等。
Georgie
Exactly. Now, the next phrasal verb is 'get off'. This means to leave the train or bus. The opposite is 'get on' – to enter the train or bus. You could ask your bus driver 'Where should I get off if I want to go to the library?' Let's hear more examples.
Examples
To get to work, I usually get off the train at Waterloo station.
(上班时我通常在滑铁卢车站下火车。)
I'm getting off at the next stop – are you coming with me?
(我要在下一站下车,你要跟我一起下车吗?)
Buli
除了 “get off”,和 “off” 有关的短语动词还有 “drop off(送某人到某处)”。“Drop off” 的动作主体通常是火车、公交车或者开车的司机。比如,我们可以说 “the bus dropped me off close to my house(公交车把我送到了家附近)” 或者 “my friend dropped me off close to my house(我的朋友开车把我送到了我家附近)”。
Georgie
Yes, but be careful with this one. Usually 'drop off' is quite an intentional act, when someone gives someone else a lift somewhere. For example, a parent dropping their child off at their piano class by car. It's not commonly used for public transport, where the drivers don't know the passengers or where they're going. Let's hear more examples.
Examples
The school bus drops the kids off at school around 8am.
(校车八点左右把孩子们送到学校。)
Thanks for giving me a lift. Can you drop me off just outside the train station?
(谢谢你让我搭便车。你能把我放在火车站门口吗?)

接下来让我们学习一些和公共交通有关的单词。“Delay” 和 “suspend” 都和 “延误,晚点” 有关。其中,“delay” 表示 “一班车、船或飞机等延误了。”
Georgie
Whereas, if the train is suspended, that means the service has temporarily stopped and we are uncertain when it will continue.
Buli
没错。“Delay(延误)” 和 “suspend(暂停运行)” 虽然都可以表示 “某班公共交通会比计划好的时间更晚出发或到达”,但 “delay” 通常用于延误的时间比较明确的时候,而 “suspend” 则表示 “造成延误的问题还没有解决,没有一个明确的恢复运行的时间,并且这个班次可能会取消”。来听一组例句。
Examples
All trains from London to Brighton are suspended due to a fallen tree on the train tracks.
(所有从伦敦到布莱顿的火车都暂停运行了,因为铁轨上有一棵倒下的树。)
My bus is delayed by 15 minutes, but I think I'll still arrive on time.
(我的公交车晚了 15 分钟,但我觉得我还是能按时赶到。)
Georgie
Lastly, 'transfer'. 'Transfer' can be a verb, but in the context of travel, it's commonly used as a noun – a transfer.
Buli
是的。单词 “transfer” 在公共交通中通常作名词,意思是 “换乘、转机、接驳” 等等。它既可以指 “在到达目的地前更换交通工具或连续乘坐不同的班次”,也可以指 “换乘不同交通工具或班次的地点或服务等等”。来听一组例句。
Examples
The travel company has organised specialised transfers between the city's attractions for convenience.
(为了方便,旅行社安排了专门在城市的不同景点之间运行的转乘线路。)
The airport transfer is a shuttle bus to the city centre which leaves every 15 minutes.
(机场有转乘去往市中心的大巴车,每 15 分钟一班。)
Buli
