　　词汇精讲：out在这里是副词，它又一个基本意思是指体育上的出局。《牛津词典》解释道： (in cricket, baseball, etc) no longer batting, having been dismissed，译为“出局，退场”。例如：

　　The captain was out for three. 队长仅跑垒三次後出局。

　　在台词中，是指“文章”不被允许发表，不采用，落选。

　　2. Doesn't betty get chance to defend her article?

　　词汇精讲1：chance在台词中用作不可数名词，它是指“可能性”，相当于“possibility”。它的固定搭配模式是： chace of (doing) something, chance to to do something。例如：

　　Is there any chance of getting tickets for tonight's performance? 有可能得到今晚演出的票吗?

　　What chance of success do we have? 我们成功的把握有多大?

　　词汇精讲2：defend是动词，意思是“为......辩护”。《牛津词典》解释道： act, speak or write in support of sb/sth。例如：

　　The newspaper defended her against the accusations. 报纸为她辩护, 驳斥对她的指责。

　　3. I don't see it fitting in "Mode".

　　词汇精讲：see在这里表示 “对(某事物)的看法”，可以翻译为：认为，觉得。例如：

　　I see things differently now. 我现在的看法不同了。

　　Try to see the matter from her point of view. 尽量用她的观点来看这件事。

　　短语精讲：fit in是动词性固定短语，它有如下意思：(1)适合, 适应、(2) 融入(群体)、(3)装配好。例如：

　　He's never done this type of work before; I'm not sure how he'll fit in with the other employees.

　　他以前从未做过这种工作，我不知道他是否能与其他雇员配合好。

　　They fit in there. 他们在那里很合适。
