Presently, China ranks among the top destinations in the world in terms of both tourist arrivals and foreign currency receipts, our outbound tourists are also increasing rapidly. China is now a big market for tourism.

In the first half of last year, China was affected by the sudden outbreak of SARS. The (concerned) tourist industry, as a result, suffered greatly / was seriously affected for a time.

Yet we have taken effective steps in preventing and controlling SARS while continuing with our economic construction, so that the tourist industry has been on fast recovery and development.

2、 I’m a native speaker of English. I have found the English language is such a noble medium. It’s impossible to write a page without experiencing positive pleasure at its richness and variety.

If an English writer cannot say what he has to say in English, and in simple English, it is probably not worth saying. But, the pity is that English is not more generally learned and studied in our country.

I am not going to attack our classroom education. The beauty of the English language will attract anyone who has the slightest taste to literature. But here what I am concerned is our present educational system.

I cannot believe that the present educational system is the best or even reasonable one. To the vastmajority of our children who attend our public schools, the current classroom education is long, useless and meaningless.

我不是攻击我们的课堂教学。凡对文学有一丁点鉴赏的人不可能对英语的魅力无动于衷。但这里我对我国目前的教育制度忧心忡忡。

我无法相信目前的教育制度是最佳的，甚至是合理的。对公立/公助/付费寄宿学校的广大学童来说，如今的课堂教学是冗长、毫无用处、且是毫无意义的。
