　　The British private investigator detained in China in connection with his work for GlaxoSmithKline has said he feels “cheated” by the UK drugs group as Chinese authorities prepare to try him in secret next month.

　　因受聘于葛兰素史克(GlaxoSmithKline，简称GSK)而在中国被拘留的英国私家侦探韩飞龙(Peter Humphrey)表示，他觉得自己被这家英国制药集团“骗了”。中国当局正准备下月对他进行非公开审判。

　　In a note dictated from prison and seen by the Financial Times, Peter Humphrey criticised GSK for failing to reveal the full extent of corruption allegations against the company when he was hired last year.

　　Mr Humphrey, a veteran corporate detective based in China, was recruited by GSK in April 2013 to investigate a former employee suspected of running a “smear campaign” against it. This included emails sent to senior GSK executives containing allegations of bribery by the company, as well as a secretly-filmed sex video involving Mark Reilly, its top manager in China.

　　Mr Humphrey said he was assured GSK had made inquiries into the allegations and that they were “not true”.

　　“Only after we completed our background investigation on the whistleblower did they reveal the details to us. I realised we had been cheated because the allegations looked real to us.”

　　Chinese police in May said they had found “massive and systemic bribery” by GSK as it handed the results of a 10-month probe to prosecutors. Mr Reilly was among dozens of GSK employees in China named as suspects.

　　People close to GSK insist Mr Humphrey was well briefed on the corruption allegations and stressed he was hired in connection with the “serious breach of privacy and security” involving Mr Reilly. A separate internal probe into the whistleblower allegations failed to find evidence of systemic corruption but did find isolated cases of wrongdoing that resulted in staff dismissals, GSK said.

　　Mr Humphrey and his wife and business partner, Yu Yingzeng, a US citizen, were arrested last July and charged with illegally purchasing confidential information. US consular officials were informed this week they would not be allowed to attend the couple’s trial, due to start on August 7.
