　　By mid-century, the sun could be the largest sourceof energy and help reign in global warming bypreventing the release of billions of tons of carbondioxide emissions, according to a new report fromthe International Energy Agency.

　　Though it is the fastest growing source of renewable electricity, solar power still onlyrepresents a fraction of energy mix dominated by fossil fuels. Globally, it provides 0.5 percentof electricity generation and, in the United States, it currently provides 0.2 percent of energygeneration.
