Luxury shoemaker Jimmy Choo has planted a bright stiletto into the gloom of falling equity markets by pricing its initial public offering in London at 140p per share, the bottom of its price range, according to a person familiar with the sale.
Shares in the maker of high-heeled shoes for thestars will start trading in London on Friday in a rareexample of a company being able to complete apublic listing despite the sharp sell-off across majorstock markets this week.
In contrast, Aldermore was forced to abandon itsplanned IPO this week after the UK small business bank encountered a lack of investordemand and struggled to lower its price below an initial range that some observers said wastoo aggressive.
There are also doubts about the planned listing of Virgin Money, the bank that is part-owned byentrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and US billionaire Wilbur Ross. The Newcastle upon Tynelender will decide by early next week whether to press ahead with pricing its IPO, according totwo people familiar with the matter.
Jimmy Choo will have a market capitalisation of £546m, well below the level targeted at the topof the shoemaker’s initial range of 140p-180p, which it narrowed to 140p-160p earlier thisweek.
The company was founded in 1996 by former Vogue accessories editor Tamara Mellon andMalaysian designer Jimmy Choo, and is now owned by Joh A Benckiser, an investment housecontrolled by the billionaire Reimann family.
