Bamboosalong the alley stand
Andvines caress my cloak with glee.
I’mglad to talk and drink good wine
Togetherwith my hermit friend.
Wesing the songs of wind and pine,
Andstars are set when singings end.
I’mdrunk and you’re merry and glad:
Weboth forget the world is sad.

Atevening I descended from
ChungnanMountain, and it was
asif the moon accompanied me;
Ilooked around and up at the track
Ihad come from, seeing just
aline of green away up there;
friendsaccompanied me home
andat the gate a youngster opened
ourpicket gate; through it
wewent on a winding path hung over
withwisteria that brushed me
asI passed, and I said how good
aplace I had found to rest
sendingfor some fine wine to drink
withthe others, the sound of our
readingpoems mixing with the breeze
thatwafted through pines; then
whenwe finished singing, we looked
atthe stars, seeing how they were
fadingout; I a little drunk, but
theothers full of joy, keeping on
withtheir singing, all of us happy
forgettingevery bitter thing.
