Whitefrost has already chilled the sandbar’s reed flowers,
Sodon’t even ask the gulls and egrets for sympathy.
Inthe dark, sleep alone.
Thoughthe phoenix may be fine,
Whenis there ever a bond with it?
Mournful,I have no words to encourage you;
Goalong a sandy shore or halfway up a stream
Justto pass the fleeting years.
Withthe rice grains recently exhausted,
Thefowler’s nets cannot wait;
Yourdream-soul is easily frightened
Manytimes in the cold mist.
Isyour grief like a woman’s?
Inthat tiny heart there is so much tender attachment.
Thenight is not yet quiet,
Yet,tired from flight, you make the mistake of resting in the flat field.
