Whitesilk glowing and pure a frost on snow,
Andmade you a fan of harmony and joy,
Asflawlessly round as the full moon.
Carryit always, nestled in your sleeve.
Waveit and it will make a cooling breeze.
Ihope, that when Autumn comes back
Andthe North Wind drives away the heat,
Youwill not store it away amongst old gifts
Andforget it, long before it is worn out.

The Fan
Fine,freshly woven silk of Qi
Iswhite as frost or snow;
Apiece, embroidered, makes a fan
Asround as the bright moon.
Mylord keeps the fan about him,
Itsmotion makes a gentle breeze for him;
ButI dread the coming of autumn
Whencold winds steal away the sultry heat.
Andthe fan is tossed, unwanted, into a casket,
Itsshort term of favor ended.
