Thehills and streams are still ours
butall else has changed; the hates
eachgeneration has built up, must
besatisfied; for ten years have I
beena revolutionary, never budging
frommy stand; in the days of Liao
andKin, swallows in the palace
beckonedour Han folk to come again
nowit is the twelfth month, almost
NewYear; armed struggle grows
moreserious; unlikely that friends
outin the field will be able
toreturn home, though for so many years
wehave not met; China does not remain
thesame; when I was young, I had
aburning ambition to save my land, but
nowso many thousands of li away
fromthe fight, I can but write to you
andtell you of what I have done; so many
timeshave I thrown down my pen, and said
Iwould go and be a soldier—then not
goingwhen, I wonder, can I get out
toour northern frontiers and plant there
theflag of our land?
