　　The prince in court: Samsung's boss

　　Do not be surprised if Lee Jae-yong denies all charges against him at a preliminary hearing in a South Korean court today - if he even appears. Last week the heir to the Samsung empire was indicted on a raft of charges: bribery, embezzlement, perjury, moving assets abroad illegally and concealing evidence of criminal profit. Samsung has already admitted to giving billions of won to a friend of President Park Geun-hye, but never in return for favours. A decision on her impeachment for alleged dodgy dealings will come tomorrow, and she will stand trial for her Samsung entanglements next week. Today the court will settle whether Mr Lee was a victim of state extortion, or a beneficiary of bribery. If charged, he faces more than 20 years in prison. The chief prosecutor says it could be “the trial of the century”. Investors shrug: soon after Mr Lee's trial date was announced, Samsung Electronics logged its highest-ever share price.
