　　Part Ⅰ

　　A. Listen to the following passage and then decide whether the statements below are true or false. After hearing a short passage, blacken the letter "A" on the ANSWER SHEET if you think the statement is true, or the letter "B" if you think it is false. There are 10 statements in this part of the test, 1 point for each statement. You will hear the passage only once. At the end of the recording, you will have 2 minutes to finish this part.

　　I grew up in a small village in Arizona. Our neighborhood was mostly family. There were many vacant lots and plenty of room to play. We had a baseball diamond and a football field. The Peralta brothers, my closest buddies, used to play golf around there.

　　My father was a subcontractor in the building trade. As I grew up, I helped him. I also had responsibilities such as chopping wood, carrying water, cleaning the yard, and helping my grandmother and grandfather. For a while, we had well water, but then the city water came in, and my dad installed it.

　　For fun, we used to play hide-and-seek, run-sheep-run and kick-the-can. We also played marbles and tops and made kites. We got bamboo from Peterson's Dairy and used paste made from water and flour to glue the paper. I attended Davis Elementary, then Tucson High and graduated in 1948.

　　My cousin, Henry Valdenegro, was in the Navy, then the Army, and also did a hitch in the Air Force. When he was discharged, he asked if I wanted to join the Marine Reserves with him and that's how I got in. After the Korean War, Henry stayed in the Marines for 35years before retiring.

　　When the Korean War broke out, I was working with Pima Printing Company. As I was in the Reserves, I was activated and was taken by train to Camp Pendleton. I thought we were just going to summer camp for more training, but we were training day and night, and then were taken aboard the commissioned ship USS Noble.

　　B. Listen to the following short statements and then choose one of the answers that best fits the meaning of each statement by blackening the corresponding letter on the ANSWER SHEET. There are 10 questions in this part of the test, 1 point for each question. You will hear each statement only once.
