　　General Motors said Thursday its second-quarterprofit plunged 83% due to the cost of numerousrecalls and the expected cost of a compensationfund for those killed or injured by a faulty ignitionswitch linked to at least 13 deaths.

The company took a $35million fine from the Department of Transportation and National Highway TransportationAdministration, and could still be looking at even bigger charges from the Justice Departmentfor the ongoing faulty ignition switch scandal.
