　　Trade disassociation: Trump in Asia

　　America's president starts his first Asian tour as nuclear tensions mount on the Korean peninsula. Yet Donald Trump's handlers have a more pressing worry: how will their mercurial boss cope for so long away from a familiar bed? The 12-day trip takes in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines. The region values etiquette, and opportunities for blunders abound. On the matter of North Korea, Japan and South Korea want reassurance, not reckless bluster. China will be his real test. Mr Trump used to blast it for unfair trade; now he has a crush on Xi Jinping, its authoritarian president. He will count any trade sop that he can bring back to his base as a great victory, but that's a blinkered approach. What should concern him, but evidently does not, is how America can keep its decades-old pre-eminence in Asia, which helped underwrite the region's security and prosperity, in the face of a hugely confident China.
