　　Qatar Holding made headlines in 2010 with a $2.8bn cornerstone investment in AgriculturalBank of China’s initial public offering, but has kept a lower profile in the region since, focusingon opportunities elsewhere.

　　2010年，卡塔尔控股曾在中国农业银行(Agricultural Bank of China)首次公开招股(IPO)时投下了28亿美元的基石投资，这一消息在当时引起了轰动。不过，自那之后该基金在亚洲一直保持更为低调的姿态，将主要精力用于在其他地区寻找投资机会。

　　It is unclear what sort of deals the Qatar fund may target in Asia.

　　目前仍不清楚这只卡塔尔基金会青睐亚洲什么类型的交易。

　　“QIA’s investment in Lifestyle International Holdings is a continuation of QIA’s investmentplan to diversify its global portfolio; this time in Asia,” said the fund, who said the dealwould diversify its retail investments, which include a stake in Tiffany & Co, the luxuryjeweller, as well as Harrods, the London department store.

　　SOGO is a mid- to upmarket retailer and its flagship store is located in the popular CausewayBay shopping district. The store was recently in the news when the territory’s Occupy HongKong protesters set up in front of it, although the outlet remained open.

　　Lifestyle International also operates Jiuguang department stores in mainland China.

　　Qatar paid HK$14.75 a share for its 19.9 per cent stake in Lifestyle, a slight premium to thestock’s HK$14.58 closing price on Friday.

　　The deal gives Qatar a seat on the board, but the company will remain controlled by the Laufamily and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, the private investment arm of the Cheng family.

　　The Cheng family’s companies include Chow Tai Fook, the world’s biggest listed jeweller, andthe New World empire spanning property development, retail and hotels.
